Shopping and Markets
There are several large towns close by that host markets such as Baud. Locmine and probably the largest at Pontivy.

JosselinCycling and Walking
The towpath that runs for many miles alongside the river Blavet is perfect for safe, level walking or cycling. Alternatively the more energetic can take to the hilly and winding country lanes. Walkers can ramble through forests and across farmland. Cycle hire is available in St.Nicolas-des-Eaux where there are all types of cycle and for all age groups.

Chateaux and Gardens
Brittany is rich in historical treasures and right on the doorstep are the splendid mediaeval chateaux at Pontivy and Josselin, beautifully maintained and open for most of the year.

AurayThe old historic town of Auray is well worth a visit. Set in a bend in the River Loch this would have once been one of the busiest ports in Brittany but now nestled amongst its fifteenth and sixteenth century houses are lively cafes, art galleries and specialist shops.

In the immediate area there is something for everyone, whether it is enjoying the birds and wildlife of the French countryside, or something more sporty such as canoeing, pony-trekking, swimming, tennis or even go-karting it is all here.

Rimaison
Within easy reach of the cottage there are several international standard Golf courses, the closest is a short 10 minute drive and is located at Rimaison near Bieuzy-les-Eaux. This is a 9-hole 2824yd course set in the grounds of an old chateaux and enjoys commanding views over the Blavet valley. With its elevation changes and rolling terrain it offers a challenge to all levels of golfer.

Golf de BadenGolf de Baden
Right on the coast and next to the Auray River, Golf de Baden enjoys spectacular scenery. Playing through pine woods and around lakes this undulating 18-hole, 6509yd, par 72 course is a great test of skill.

Golf de Saint-Laurent at Ploemel
Golf de Saint-Laurent is one of the best courses in Morbihan and was voted among the top 40 French courses in 'Golf Europeen 2001'. Set in the centre of an oak and pine forest with well kept greens and undulating fairways this 18-hole, 6702yd, par 72 course was the chosen venue for the French Professional Championships in 1988 & 89 and the National Open in 1995. It has a 9-hole, 2958yd, par 35 course ideal for players of all standards.

Val Queven Golf CourseVal Queven Golf Course
Another marvellous course and maybe a little more forgiving than the others is Golf de Val Queven. This 18-hole, 6715yd, par 72 course is again on the coast and plays over rolling landscape and through mature woodland.

The River Blavet offers excellent and varied course fishing and is considered to be the best carp river in Europe with specimen carp running to 20Kg(40lb) plus. With plenty of slow moving, shady water bream and perch abound, trout, roach, zander can be readily caught and salmon can be taken in season.

Fishing permits can be purchased in the local bars and hotels and the friendly locals will point out the best places to fish. In Pontivy there is a good, English speaking Anglers shop for all your equipment needs.

Whether it is course, game or sea fishing that you want, Brittany has it in abundance, its rivers, its lakes, particularly the fabulous Lac du Guerledan and its bays and rocky coves along the coast make for an Anglers paradise.
